ReplyDeleteI’ll leave Elyn and my uncultured notes — we tried it last night because we have another engagement tonight.
ReplyDeleteNotes of vanilla, oak, cherry. It seemed to be stronger than 80 proof. A little harsh on the swallow, but had a nice lingering finish. Would be good in an old fashioned or with some ice.
I agree on the proof. But we only have one at 80 and two around 85. Most are in the 90-100 range. And then we have a few cask strength. The Elijah clocks in at 129!
DeleteColor: light amber
ReplyDeleteNose: apple pie (cinnamon and nutmeg), a little bready,
Taste: Hot. Spicy. A little Vanilla a lot of cinnamon, baking spices, and maybe some minty flavors.
Finish: Not a long finish. Tannic -drying on the tongue.
It’s a fine whiskey, but not amazing - I’m thinking young and high in rye. I’m perfectly happy drinking this one, but I can’t see myself seeking out a bottle.
I let it sit in the glass for a while and it softened considerably. Now I’m smelling more vanilla and some butterscotch/toffee.
DeleteCool. Lots of burn for me, not a lot of other flavors yet. Maybe a little vanilla in the back end. Even the nose is pretty strong. I definitely like it but it is more on the harsh end. I could use one like this on Christmas morning.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an amateur at this but here goes!
ReplyDeleteColor: light amber
Smell: some oak and butter
First Tasting: decent burn, not a ton of flavor immediately, seems young, but it’s also a little syrupy, with some vanilla and maybe more of that butter towards the end. Not much aftertaste
With ice: more oak in the initial taste and some added sweetness on the back end with a longer finish
So my first 2 tries at posting were definitely more eloquent and descriptive and Pulitzer worthy...haha but here goes
ReplyDeleteAt first sniff burns the nose - second the comment on seeming higher proof.
Flavors of vanilla and some caramel
Not a long finish - leaves a burn on the lips.
Nice flavor but probably would not become our new favorite.
Nice open. Smooth. A bit oily. Rough finish. Opens up with a little water, or time. But still a bit rough. I'd say that this is one of the higher proof bottles.
