The One and Only New Orleans Original. Sazerac Rye Whiskey symbolizes the tradition and history of New Orleans. Rye Whiskey dates back to the 1800’s, around the time when saloons, veiled as Coffee Houses, began lining the streets of New Orleans. It was at the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street where local patrons were served toddies made with Rye Whiskey and Peychaud’s Bitters. The libation became known as the “Sazerac” and America’s first branded cocktail was born. This is the whiskey that started it all.

Origin: Frankfort, KY

Color: medium amber
ReplyDeleteNose: dried cherry, pecans? dried fig/fig newton, a little citrus after adding ice
Taste: a nice balance of spicy and sweet, a little minty in a good way.
Finish: softer finish, not terribly long, but no burn.
I like this one a lot more than whiskey one. It’s sweeter and mellower while also being a little more interesting.
*I’m a little congested today so I’m not confident in my senses.

ReplyDeleteWe also liked this one much more. Much smoother and easier to drink - the flavors aren't necessarily stronger, but without the burn you can appreciate them more. Longer finish than #1 but not what I would call a long finish. Could easily enjoy a couple of these!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Sweet aroma and very drinkable. Maybe a little fruit or vanilla, nice burn but still smooth.
ReplyDeleteFloral open. A bit of melon on the smooth finish. Nice, and definitely not as powerful or harsh as #1.
ReplyDeleteColor: amber, darker than the first
ReplyDeleteSmell: vanilla, spice/cinnamon
Taste: cinnamon and spice, something sweet like cherry, very smooth though. Finish lingers nicely but not too long—still more cinnamon. Not much of a burn. Better than the first.
Ice: made it more woody/oak-y and actually made the finish a little harsher. Liked better neat
Sweet and spice. Very smooth finish. Lingers in mouth not in throat.
ReplyDeleteSJX scale 1-4: 3 (I’d buy it)
